Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE BUCHANAN

Water clear; 87 degrees; 1015': LARGEMOUTH are fair to good very early on stumps flats inside of lake points of creeks and pockets using white 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps and crankbaits. later, we switch to soft plastics like the new "Heavy Tube" (by Creme Lure Co. www.cremelure.com), 1/4 oz. Terminator pumpkin jigs with Killer Krawdad trailers, 4" Disc Worms and Carolina rigs with 6" Disc Lizards (by Big Bite Baits at www.bigbitebaits.com), working them along and down ledges into 20' of water.

STRIPERS are fair to good over 24' humps in 40' of water from Garrett to the Dam drifting live perch and vertically jigging Horizon Pirk Minnows & white/char Curb's striper jigs with trailers.

All other species slow or N/A.

LAKE LBJ

Water clear 86-88 degrees; 824.85': LARGEMOUTH are fair very early along 12' breaklines on gold Shiner Terminator spinnerbaits, 1/8 oz. white Tiny-Buzz, Berkley poppers and 'Traps on creek points. After sunnup, change tactics to pitching and skipping plastics at boat docks; 4" junebug Disc Worms, Devil's Tongues and Wacky Worms. The bite dies after 8:00 AM and fishing is slow.

CANYON LAKE

WATER CLEAR; 88 degrees; 908' (1' low): LARGEMOUTH AND SMALLMOUTH fishing is most productive. The thermocline is moving up the water column and the fish are coming with it.

Right at daylight, largemouth are fair in 8'-12' on moving baits; chartreuse Terminator spinnerbaits, shallow running firetiger crankbaits and plastic jerkbaits. But once the sun get over the horizon, slow down with soft plastics and jigs. Split shot rigs with Ice Tea or chartreuse Devil's Tongues, pumpkin/char.. 4" Disc Worms will all produce. Some good fish in the 3 lb. class are coming on Wacky Worms (Scoundrels) in the upper end.

SMALLMOUTH are fair right at daylight along gravel flats on plastic jerkabaits and smoke/red Super Tubes working in 12'-15' flooded timber.
