Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE BUCHANAN
We are catching more quality largemouth (up to 7 lbs.) in the past few days than we have seen this summer. Fish are beginning to work shad very early on flats and sloping points. Right at daylight there is a good buzzbait and spinnerbait bite on a 1/8 oz. Tiny-Buzz, silver/blue 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbait, Baby Bass Rat-L-Traps and plastic jerkbaits. After that action cools, about an hour after daylight, I change to soft plastics and jigs like a 1/4 oz. pumpkin or watermelon Terminator for brushpiles or an 1/8 or 1/4 oz. Curb's
bass jig using either a Killer Krawdad or Devil's Tongue for a trailer. Crankbaiting deep secondary creek points will also produce as will Carolina rigs with a 6" chartreuse Disc Lizard (www.bigbitebaits).
Twin tail pumpkin grubs worked along ledges in 8'-15' are catching a lot of fish in the 1 1/2 - 3 lb. category.
All of this indicates that as we go into the latter part of our hottest weather, the bass may be preparing to gather up and give us some school action before too long.
STRIPERS are good drifting live bait over 24' humps from Garrett Island to the dam.

CANYON LAKE
Bass fishing in general is improving with fish staying active longer. We still start our day before daylight because the most activity is only for about an hour after first light.
LARGEMOUTH are moving in 8'-14' of water down bluffs and holding along secondary creek points where a silver/blue Terminator spinnerbait, threadfin Berkley crankbait or plastic jerkbaits are all producing.Later I change to 4" Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com)and split shot rigged Devil's Tongues worked down the ledges through submerged trees.
SMALLMOUTH are active at daylight on pumpkin twin tail grubs, white/char. 1/8 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, smoke 3" Super Tubes and Devil's Tongues.

LAKE LBJ
The recent front that passed through central Texas driving away the high pressure system that has plagued us for months made a huge difference in fishing.
LARGEMOUTH activated and stayed active longer than they have. From the point at Honeymoon Camp all the way to midlake, we had a good spinnerbait and buzzbait bite all day. 1/8 oz. white/char. Tiny-Buzz and 1/4 oz. silver/green Terminator spinnerbaits worked across and along stumps and laydowns produced fish to 5 lbs..
As the morning progressed we slowed down fishing points
and brushpiles in 12'-15' with Terminator jigs, "Heavy Tubes" (new from Creme Lures at www.cremelure.com) and Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com).
WHITE BASS AND STRIPERS are still most active during generation before daylight on 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and Curb's Crappie jigs.
