Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE

Water gin clear; 85 degrees; 907':

LARGEMOUTH are good the first hour of daylight in 3'-6' of water on laydowns and stickups using white/chart. 1/8 oz. Tiny-Buzz (by Terminator) & 1/4 oz. white/char. Terminator spinnerbaits. After full light switch to Chameleon Scoundrel worms on wacky rigs and "Heavy Tubes" (www.cremelure.com)fished in 6'-12'tight to timber.

Be alert for schooling activity. When a school blows up within casting range use a 1/8 oz. silver Terminator spinnerbait, 1/4 oz. Horizon Pirk Minnow or 1/8 oz. Spin Trap.

SMALLMOUTH are fair to 2 1/2 lbs. right at daylight using smoke 3" Super Tubes, chartreuse Devil's Tongues on split shot rigs and pumpkin 4" Disc Worms along 6'-14' breaklines in the lower end.

LAKE LBJ

Water clear; 85 degrees; 824.89':

LARGEMOUTH are fair to 7 lbs. on sloping points and flats at midlake with stumps and laydowns using Terminator buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and Pop R's. After the sun is up move to the end of the point or out over the breaklines and throw crankbaits, "Heavy Tubes" and slow roll silver Terminators in 6'-10'.

Locate brushpiles under boat docks and skip a 1/4 oz. pumpkin or watermelon Terminator jig and Killer Krawdad trailer under it. Along rip rap try Ice Tea or pumpkin Devil's Tongues or 4" junebug Disc Worms.

WHITE BASS and CRAPPIE are still good at night during gerneration using 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and white Curb's crappie jigs.

LAKE BUCHANAN

Water clear; 86 degrees; 1015':

STRIPERS are good with limits of 18"-26" fish coming while drifting live bait or vertically jigging Horizon Pirk Minnows over 22'-24' humps from Garrett to the dam.

LARGEMOUTH are fair early and late on 1/4 oz. white Terminator buzzbaits or silver shad Terminator spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps and wacky rigged Scoundrel worms fished along stumps flats in 4'-8' of water. If the day is cloudy, stick with this pattern all day. Otherwise, switch to a 4" chartreuse/pepper Disc Lizard on a Carolina rig, crankbaits or Devil's Tongues on drop shot rigs fished over isolated humps along ledges and points.
