Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE

Water clear to 12'; 909'; 77 degrees: LARGEMOUTH are good, even after the passage of the recent front early in 3'-6' using chrome Rat-L-Traps, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, 1/4 oz. Silver Shad Terminator spinnerbaits. Look for shad activity in secondary feeder creeks and pockets. Some school activity with bass in the 1 1/2 lb. to 2 1/2 lb. range. For schoolies we're working an 1/8 oz. Tiny-T (Terminator) spinnerbait, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shad or 1/4 oz. 'Trap casting directly into the school. There are some larger fish under or near the schoolies. Pitch a Shad 4" Super Tube Heavy or wacky rigged Scoundrel worm around the edges of the school.

SMALLMOUTH are fair to 3 lbs. on Ice Tea or chartreuse Devil's Tongues, smoke/red or smoke/blue flake 3" Super Tubes worked along deep breaklines of gravel flats and points with rock piles at the end.

Water stained-clear; 76 degrees upper-80 lower; 824.90' LARGEMOUTH are good to 5 1/2 lbs. early on points and flats in 3'-8' on 3/8 oz. Bill Dance buzzbaits, white/char. 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits; shallow running crankbaits and topwater poppers.

Work Horseshoe Bay rip rap & docks with watermelon/red spider grubs, wacky rigged watermelon/red Scoundrel worms and a 4" Super Tube Heavy skipped under docks with brushpiles.

Midlake stump fields are producing right at daylight on white 1/8 oz. Tiny-Buzz, 4" watermelon Super Tube Heavy and 2" Lit'l Fishie Shad.

LAKE BUCHANAN

Water clear; 77 Degrees; 1013': STRIPERS are good with limits on live bait drifted over humps in 24' from Flag Island to the dam. Trolling bucktail jigs is producing. Some topwater action on points using Zara Spooks, 1 oz. 'Traps and 3" Lit'l Fishie Shads.

LARGEMOUTH are migrating, following shad into creeks and pockets. Early and late work 3'-8' with a Tiny-Buzz (Terminator Buzzbait, Rat-L-Trap, or 1/4 oz. silver Terminator spinnerbaits. Later target dropoffs of points and creek turns in channels in 8'-14' with a 1/4 oz. watermelon Terminator jig with Disc Craw trailer, 4" Disc worms and watermelon Screamer worms for larger fish.
