Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE
Water clear; 75 degrees; 909'
LARGEMOUTH are very good to 6 lbs. along 6'-12' breaklines on white 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, Tat-L-Traps or Fat Free Shad crankbaits and plastic jerkbaits fishing perpendicular to shorelines. Other good areas are the mouth of secondary creeks working
from the main channel breakline into the channel. Pitching a (new product) 4" shad or watermelon/pumpkin
Super Tube Heavy (www.cremelure.com) or 1/4 oz. watermelon Terminator jig with matching Disc Craw (www.bigbitebaits.com)trailers to laydowns should produce. Rock and brushpiles along steep bluff banks are holding fish. Devil's Tongues on drop shot rigs are excellent on such structure.
SMALLMOUTH are good in early over 8'-12' flats on 1/8 oz. Tiny-T spinnerbaits, Terminator Finesse Jigs with small pork trailers and chartreuse grubs. Later, the fish will move over breaklines in 10'-18' of water holding in submerged trees and over rockpiles. Devil's Tongues, smoke Super Tubes and smoke twin tail grubs are all good choices.
STRIPERS and WHITE BASS are very good along deep water points and bluffs, mainly in the lower 1/3 of the lake.
Naturally, drifting live bait will produce STRIPERS, but only to wait them out until a school surfaces within casting distance. Then a Zara Spook, Rat-L-Trap
white/chartreuse Curb's striper jigs or Pirk Minnow get the most action.
WHITE BASS are schooling in the same general area. Pirk Minnows, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, 3" white grubs on 1/8 oz. white Curb's bucktails will work. Good topwater lures are clear Rat-L-Tops or Torpedos.
