Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE

Water clear (stained upriver); 71 degrees; 909':

LARGEMOUTH are good in 5'-10' channels and on sloping secondary creek points using a white Terminator spinnerbait, medium running shad colored crankbaits and chrome Rat-L-Traps.

Good schooling activity in secondary creeks early and all day on windless days. 1/8 oz. Tiny-T spinnerbaits, 1/4 oz. 'Traps and 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads are all productive.

Try working a crawfish 4" Super Tube Heavy (by Creme Lure www.cremelure.com)or 3/8 oz. pumpkin Terminator jig down ledges of bluffs or a watermelon/green Sipder jig on rocky seconday points.

SMALLMOUTH are fair to good in 6'-14' of water in the lower end of the lake on smoke Super Tubes, smoke twin tail grubs and drop shot rigs with pumpkin or Ice Tea Devil's Tongues worked on rock piles on breaklines.

STRIPERS AND WHITE BASS are schooling along deep water bluffs and points from midlake to the dam. Drifting live perch, vertically jigging 1/2 oz. Pirk Minnows or burning 1/2 oz. Curb's striper jigs through suspended schools will produce. For surface activity try a Berkley threadfin topwater walker or Spit Fire topwaters.

LAKE LBJ

Water stained; 70 degrees; 824.80: LARGEMOUTH are good in schooling action using 1/8 oz. Tiny-T spinnerbaits, 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps or 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads.

Work a 1/4 white/char. Terminator spinnerbait or crankbait around points of creeks and pockets from Horseshoe Bay to Sunrise Beach. Pitching a watermelon 4" Super Tube Heavy to laydowns and brushpiles or skipping a watermelon/red 4" or 6" wacky rigged Scoundrel worm under docks is producing.
