Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE LBJ

Water clear; 68 degrees; 824.76': LARGEMOUTH are very good to 5 1/2 lbs. in 6'-12' on sandy creek points using white/char. 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, watermelon/red wacky rigged Scoundrel worms and chrome Wiggle Warts.

Pitching a watermelon 4" Super Tube Heavy, 1/4 oz. watermelon Terminator jig and pork to boat docks and brushpiles is also very effective. Good areas to target are Horseshoe Bay, Big Snady, Highland Haven and Robin Hood Coves.

CRAPPIE AND WHITE BASS are good in the LCRA park area with some topwater action on Rat-L-Tops, No. 3 Terminator In-Line spinners and 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads. When the surface action slows try vertically jigging a 1/4 oz. Pirk Minnow along the nearest channel breakline. Work the crappie with minnows over one of the many brushpiles in that area. Pearl colored(Creme Lure Co.) Tube Jigs, chartreuse 1/16 oz. Curb's crappie jigs will also take a limit.

STRIPERS AND WHITE BASS are schooling along deep water points and bluffs. Some limited topwater action, but drifting live bait is the most productive for stripers. Try live perch or goldfish from Fisherman's Corner, 21910 FM 306,(830) 935-2933, www.canyonlakefishing.com Berkley topwater "walkers", Red Fins and Zara Spooks will all take surfacing stripers.
