Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE
Water clear; 51-53 degrees; 909.20':
LARGEMOUTH are fair to good along bluff ledges and over rock piles in 8'-14' on 4" and 5" gray/blue flake SlidingWeight Craw Fish, 3/16 oz. pumpkin/brown Terminator Finesse Jig with pork trailers and 4" chartreuse Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com). Try slowrolling a 1 oz. Heavy-T spinnerbait (by Terminator)
through tree tops in 15'-20' along bluffs for some really big fish.
SMALLMOUTH are good in 5'-12' holding along points and drop-offs of gravel flats. A 1/8 oz. brown Curb's hair jig with a Devil's Tongue trailer, 3 inch smoke Super Tubes and smoke twin tail grubs are all productive.
STRIPERS are good to very good with some (5 fish limits) of fish from 18"-24" in 30'-40' over humps and sunken islands and off deep main lake points. Burning a 1/2 oz. Curb's striper jig, vertically jigging a 1/2 - 1 oz. Pirk Minnow or 2" Lit'l Fishie Shad or other plastic shad bodies are all taking fish.
WHITE BASS are good but not as good as they will be in February when they are all staged in the upper end along with the stripers in preparation for the "run".
1/4 oz. Pirm Minnows, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, No. 3 Terminator In-Line spinners are all helping to fill live wells and chest.

LAKE LBJ
Water clear; 52 degrees; 3' low.
Fishing has been made difficult by the lowering of this lake. It will remain 3' low for the rest of January for maintenance.
