Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Canyon Lake

Water clear; 66 degrees; 909':

LARGEMOUTH are fair in main lake tight to standing timber and laydowns along banklines on 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps, pumpkin/chartreuse Big Bite Baits Disc Lizards (www.bigbitebaits.com), and smoke 3" Super Tubes (www.cremelure.com). Some quality bass are being taken by our clinets upriver pitching a 4" watermelon or blue gill Super Tube Heavy, 3/16 oz. Terminator Finesse Jig and pork trailer to trees hanging over 3'-5'. Running a white/chartreuse 1/8 oz. Terminator spinnerbait through stands of salt cedars is also producing fish up to 7 lbs.

SMALLMOUTH are fair using chartreuse 3" Super Tubes, suspending jerkbaits and chartreuse Tiny-T spinnerbaits over submerged trees in 8'-14'. Pitching Tiny-T jigs with smoke plastic trailers directly into trees has been a good technique.

LAKE LBJ

Water lightly stained; 62 degrees; 824.91':

Black Bass are fair to good in 2'-5' using a 4" watermelon 4" Super Tube Heavy or a 6" Big Bite Baits watermelon Disc Lizard to walkways of docks, seawalls and laydowns. Try running a 1/4 oz. white Terminator spinnerbait, Rat-L-Trap, Rebel Wee R or Bomber A down shallow ditches and channels.

White Bass are good trolling a No. 5 Shad Rap or silver/blue Bomber Long A along breaklines of main channel over 21' of water. Once you find the school try casting a No. 3 Terminator In-Line spinner, 1 1/2" Lit'l Fishie or Tiny-Trap. Vertical jigging a 1/4 oz. Pirk Minnow is also producing. (All of these will also produce stripers, which MUST be at least 18" to be legal.)

Crappie are improving in canals and creeks on Creme Lure's Solid Body Tubes, white or chartreuse Curb's crappie jigs and minnows.
