Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE BUCHANAN: Water clear; 68 degrees; 1016.32':

LARGEMOUTH are fair to good in 2'-5' in creeks and around the Apple Orchard on crawfish 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps, White 1/4 oz.Terminator spinnerbaits and Ice Tea Scoundrel worms on whacky rigs. Watermelon/red 4" Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) and Spider Grubs are good along sandy points or flats.

STRIPERS are good in 16'-24' from The Willows to Mud Island drifting live bait, trolling Curb's striper jigs and jigging Pirk Minnows. Some topwater action over long sandy points but most of these fish are undersized.

WHITE BASS are fair in the upper end trolling Shad Raps, jigging 1/4 oz. Pirk Minnows, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and live bait.

CRAPPIE are slow to fair in 4'-8' feet on minnows, Curb's crappie jigs and red/chartreuse 1/32 oz. crappie tube jigs (www.cremelure.com).

CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 67 degrees; 909.39':

LARGEMOUTH are very good in 2'-4' of water on 4" chartreuse/pepper Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com), crawfish 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps, Blue Shad Terminator spinnerbaits and pumpkin/chartreuse BBB Disc Lizards. Whacky rigged 4" watermelon/red Scoundrel worms and 3" Super Tubes (www.cremelure.com) are effective along laydowns and buck brush. Upriver, try a white/chart. Terminator buzzbait or spinnerbait, Pop R's and plastic jerkbaits on creek points.

SMALLMOUTH are fair in 14' of water using 3/16 oz. Terminator Finesse Jigs with a BBB craw worm trailer, 3" smoke Super Tubes and suspending jerkbaits over submerged trees and deep points. A pumpkin 4" Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com)and crawfish Rebel Deep Wee R's or a Bomber A fished along 12' breaklines of flats will produce.

STRIPERS are fair drifting live bait, trolling Curb's striper jigs and jigging 1/2 oz. Pirk Minnows in creek channels and lake points.

WHITE BASS are good in the main lake on channel points jigging 1/4 oz. Pirk Minnow, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and No. 3 Terminator In-Line spinners.

CRAPPIE are good in 3'-6' on 1/32 oz. silver (Creme Lures) crappie tube jigs, Curb's crappie jigs and minnows.

LAKE LBJ: Water stained; 68 degrees; 824.91':

LARGEMOUTH are good in 2'-4' using crawfish Rat-L-Traps, 1/4 oz. blue shad Terminator spinnerbaits along rocky points and plastic jerkbaits. Working a Watermelon/red Scoundrel worm on a Whacky rig or 4" watermelon Super Tube Heavy on breaklines of channels is also producing some fish in the 3-6 lb. range.

WHITE BASS are fair in 8'-12' on minnows and trolling shad raps or casting Tiny Traps and No 3 Terminator In-Line spinners along breaklines of channel turns.

CRAPPIE are very good in 1'-2' of water on white Curb's hair crappie jigs, blue/white 1/32 oz. crappie tubes and minnows.
