Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE BUCHANAN

Water clear; 75 degrees; 1016.43': BLACK BASS are fair in 4'-8' along breaklines using Whacky rigged watermelon/red Scoundrel worms, 1/4 oz. white Terminator spinnerbaits and perch colored crankbaits. A 3/16 oz. watermelon Terminator Finesse Jig with a BBB craw trailer or pumpkin 4" SlidingWeight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) worked along ledges inside of secondary creek points are good for some quality fish.

STRIPERS are fair drifting live bait in 15'-30' from Black Rock to the dam. Limited topwater action very early on points using Rat-L-Traps and Red Fins.

WHITE BASS are slow trolling crankbaits.

CRAPPIE are slow on live minnows.

CANYON LAKE

Water clear; 77 degrees; 909.46':

LARGEMOUTH are good in 5'-8' on chartreuse/pepper 4" BBB Disc Worms, 1/4 oz. white/chartreuse Terminator spinnerbaits and Rat-L-Traps. Upriver, working 3'-8' along channel breaklines with a pumpkin/char. BBB Disc Worm (www.bigbitebaits.com) and Tiny traps will produce

SMALLMOUTH are good around South Park and Holiday Cove using chartreuse Devil's Tongues (www.cremelures.com), 3" Super Tubes and smoke twin tail grubs. While the fish are up shallow right at daylight Tiny-T spinnerbaits and small small poppers are working.

STRIPERS are fair over humps and on points in 40' on large minnows and vertically jigging Pirk Minnows. Topwater action limited to daylight and dusk.

WHITE BASS are fair on lake points early on 2" Lit'l Fishie Shad, No. 3 Terminator In-Line spinners and Tiny Traps. Try a clear Rat-L-Top topwater early. CRAPPIE are fair upriver along treelines on minnows, blue/white 1/16 oz. Tiny Tubes and white or chartreuse Curb's crappie jigs.

LAKE LBJ

Water stained; 76 degrees; 824.85':

BLACK BASS are slow to fair in the lower end using Rat-L-Traps, gold shiner Terminator spinnerbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) and plastic jerkbaits. Very early the points between stump fields at mid-lake are producing on Pop R's and Ball Buster buzzbaits. Work sandy points with a 4" watermelon/red SlidingWeight Craw Fish (www.sliidingweight.com)or Spider Grub.

STRIPERS are slow.

WHITE BASS are good in numbers but small very early on 1/8 Spin Traps and clear Rat-L-Tops.

CRAPPIE are good in 8'-15' on minnows, silver 1/32 oz. Mini Tubes and white or chartreuse Curb's crappie jigs.
