Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE BUCHANAN

Water clear; 76 degrees; 1016.33' BLACK BASS are good in 5'-8' feet of water over buck brush in creeks on white 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, bluegill 4" Super Tube Heavy and crankbaits on points. There is an early and late shallow water bite on topwaters, white 1/4 "Ball Buster" buzzbaits(www.terminatorlures.com) and plastic jerkbaits with fish holding along breaklines of ditches and channels. STRIPERS are good to 24" drifting live bait and trolling 1/2 oz. Curb's striper jigs. Early morning topwater action on Red Fins and Rat-L-Traps. WHITE BASS are fair on Pirk Minnows and 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads worked over 12' to 20' of water. Live minnows will produce while drifting. CANYON LAKE

Water clear; 77 degrees; 909.40':

LARGEMOUTH are good early and late along 5-15 feet bluffs slow-rolling a silver/blue 3/4 oz. "Heavy T" spinnerbait(www.terminatorlures.com) through tops of

submerged trees and deadsticking plastic jerkbaits. Topwaters will produce over long breaklines of long points. During the day, a 4" BBB chart/pepper Disc Worm or SlidingWeight Craw Fish(www.slidingweight.com) will take fish in 10'-15' .

Upriver, try pitching a 4" watermelon Super Tube Heavy or pumpkin Disc Worms to standing timber and salt cedars for some quality bass.

SMALLMOUTH are good in lower end of lake using 3" smoke

Super Tubes (www.cremelure.com) , Devil's Tongues and

4" Scoundrel worms. white Tiny-T spinnerbaits, rootbeer grubs and plastic jerkbaits will work early. A watermelon/red 4" SlidingWeight Craw Fish is good when worked over rock piles on points.

STRIPERS are good on an early morning topwater bite and

later drifting live perch or goldfish in 40' along bluff points.

WHITE BASS are good early on 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, No. 3 Terminator In-Line spinners and Rat-L-Tops.

CRAPPIE are good upriver on minnows, 1/32 oz. Curb's crappie jigs and Mini Tubes.

CHANNEL CATFISH are good on punch bait, liver and minnows.

YELLOW and BLUE CATFISH are good to 12 pounds on perch and goldfish.

LAKE LBJ

Water stained; 76 degrees; 824.80' BLACK BASS are fair to good early on topwaters, Silver Shad Terminator spinnerbaits and Ice Tea Scoundrel worms on Whacky rigs. A 4" pumpkin/char. SlidingWeight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com)crankbaits and split shot rigged Devil's Tongues are working on rocky points and in rip rap. STRIPERS N/A WHITE BASS are good early on Rat-L-Tops, Tiny Traps and 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads on points. CRAPPIE are good over brush piles in 12' on minnows, blue/white Mini Tubes and 1/32 oz. Curb's crappie jigs and also on bridge pilings. This will remain the pattern for crappie the rest of the summer.
