Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE BUCHANAN: Water clear; 77 degrees; 1016.25':

LARGEMOUTH are good along bluff ledges in 12'-15' on white Terminator buzzbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) firetiger Bombers and watermelon/red Scounrel worms on whacky rigs. Good early topwater bite on small gold or silver poppers fished in 2'-10' of water. A 4" watermelon/red Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) fished down lake points in 8'-15' can produce some very good bass.

STRIPERS are fair in 45' drifting live bait or trolling Curb's striper jigs over humps . Topwater action early and late using Rat-L-Traps and Spit Fire topwaters over humps.

WHITE BASS are fair in 25' jigging Pirk Minnows, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and Tiny Traps and trolling small Shad Raps.

LAKE LBJ: Water stained; 77 degrees; 824.66'

BLACK BASS are fair very early on white 1/4 oz. Terminator buzzbaits, topwater poppers and skipping a whacky rigged watermelon/red Scoundrel worm under docks. Pitching 4" Pro Blue Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com) and a red flake 4" Super Tube Heavy along rip rap and stump fields is producing.

STRIPERS are good but undersized at night on 2" Lit' Fishie Shads and white Curb's jigs. Early topwater bite with larger fish on Spitn' Images.

WHITE BASS are very good at night under lights using white or chartreuse 1/32 oz. Curb's crappie jigs and Lit'l Fishies (www.cremelure.com)

CRAPPIE are good at night along boat docks with brushpiles on Curb's crappie jigs, Mini Tails and minnows. CANYON LAKE: Water "gin" clear; 78 degrees; 909'

LARGEMOUTH are good very early in 3'-8' of water using silver or chrome Pop R's , 1/4 oz. Silver Shad Terminator spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, Whacky rigged Ice Tea Scoundrel worms and firetiger crankbaits. Later, work main lake points and tree lines with pumpkin 4" BBB Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com) or Devil's Tongue on split shot rigs in 10'-20'.

SMALLMOUTH are good over 12'-20' on Devil's Tongues, 3" smoke Super Tubes (www.cremelure.com) and 3" pumpkin BBB grubs. For some of the best smallies we are crawling a 4" pumpkin Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) paralell to bluffs in 8'-15' of water.

STRIPERS are fair drifting live bait in 60' over humps and along treelines on bluffs. Early topwater action on Rat-L-Traps and Zara Spooks.

WHITE BASS slow along lake points on clear Rat-L-Tops, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and Tiny Traps.

CRAPPIE good upriver tight to trees on Mini Tails, Curb's crappie jigs and minnows.
