Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE BUCHANAN:Water clear; 80 degrees; 1017.56'

LARGEMOUTH are fair very early on shallow points in 5'-8' using white 1/4 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, watermelon Snap-Back plastic jerkbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) and blue/chart. Berkley shallow running crankbaits. Mid-morning you need to back off deeper and start working a watermelon/red Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) on Carolina rigs, Smokin' Green Devil's Tongues on drop shot or split shot rigs (www.cremelure.com) along ledges in 12'-20' or pitching 4" watermelon Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com) around boat docks over 12' of water or more.

STRIPERS are fair to good to 15 lbs. around Flag Island in 35'of water drifting shad or trolling 1/2 oz. Curb's striper jigs. Some very early topwater action using Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com) and Zara Spooks. CANYON LAKE: Water stained to clear; 80 degrees; 918': **NOTE** All County ramps are open. Corps. ramps will open after a "drying" period or by Oct. 1st. Release rate was still 5,000 cfs as of 9/12/02 but will be decreasing as level returns closer to normal. The discontinuation of the strong draw down should improve fishing.**

LARGEMOUTH are fair just before and at daylight along the 4'-8' breakline using black 1/4 oz. Terminator buzzbaits, shallow running blue/char. Rebel crankbaits and pitching watermelon 4" Super Tube Heavy directly into buckbrush and laydowns. Carolina rigging a 4" gray/blue flake Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com)and drop shot rigs with Smokin' Green Devil's Tongues or split shot rigged 4" grn/pump. Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com) worked along ledges and sloping in 15'-20' points will produce when the shallow bite slows.

LAKE LBJ: Water clear; 80 degrees; 824.98':

BLACK BASS are fair along breaklines in 8'-12' using watermelon/red Devil's Tongues (www.cremelure.com) on split shot rigs, 4" green/pumpkin Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com) and dead-sticking watermelon Snap Back jerkbaits (www.terminatorlures.com).

STRIPERS are slow in in the main channel drifting live perch.

WHITE BASS are good at night in 5'-8' on Lit'l Fishies and 1/16 oz. Curb's crappie jigs.

CRAPPIE are fair to good over 14' brushpiles on chartreuse Curb's crappie jigs, silver Tiny Tube jigs and minnows.
