Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE BUCHANAN

Water clear; 79 degrees; 1017.20':

LARGEMOUTH are fair over brushpiles and stump rows in 8'-15' using a junebug 4" BBB Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com), watermelon Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) on Carolina rigs and a shad pattern Fat Free Shad. There is a pretty good early morning bite on white/char. Terminator buzzbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) and Spit N' Images over grassy flats and watermelon/red Scoundrel worms (www.cremelures.com) on Whacky rigs along shallow rock ledges.

STRIPERS are good from Flag Island to the Dam drifting live bait,trolling Curb's striper jigs and vertically jigging 1/2 oz. Pirk Minnows. Some topwater action early and late on 1/2 oz. chrome Rat-L-Traps

(www.rat-L-trap.com) and Berkley topwater walkers.

WHITE BASS are good over flats in 6'-12' vertically jigging 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and 1/4 oz. silver Pirk Minnows.

CANYON LAKE

Water clear; 79 degrees; 909.50': As of this report

Canyon Lake is producing better numbers and quality bass than any of the other Highland Lakes.

LARGEMOUTH are good on points in 10'-20' on wtr/pepper 4" Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com), pumpkin/chart 4" Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) and parrot colored Fat Free Shads. Early morning the active fish will go for a 1/4 oz. white Terminator spinnerbait (www.terminatorlures.com) or shallow running Rebel or Bomber A crankbait worked down submerged rock piles.

SMALLMOUTH are very good over shallow humps and bluff ledges in 8'-20' on Smokin' Green Devil's Tongues (www.cremelure.com) and 3" rootbeer BBB grubs on 1/8 oz. jigheads rigged on 6 or 8 lb. test line.

STRIPERS are fair drifting live bait and vertically jigging 1/2 Pirk Minnows or trolling curb's stripers jigs in 60 feet of water.

WHITE BASS are slow to fair on the surface early using Tiny Traps and Pirk Minnows.

CRAPPIE are fair upriver on minnows and chartreuse Curb's crappie jigs.

LAKE LBJ

Water clear; 81 degrees; 824.86': LARGEMOUTH are good along boat docks on Whacky rigged watermelon/red Scoundrel worms (www.cremelure.com), 1/8 oz. Tiny-T spinnerbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) and shallow running Rebel or Wart Hawg crankbaits. Working a pumpkin/chartreuse Sliding Weight Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) either Texas or Carolina rigged along rip rap on creek points 10'-16' is productive.

WHITE BASS are good at night on 1 1/2" Lit'l Fishies and white Curb's crappie jigs.

CRAPPIE are good in 14'-20' on Curb's crappie jigs and minnows.
