Capt. Jim Files

Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE BUCHANAN: Water clear; 62 degrees; 1018.30':

Largemouth are good in creeks in 4'-10' along secondary creek points using 1/4 oz. Silver Shad Terminator spinnerbaits (www.terminatorlures.com), Silver Shad Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-traps.com) and watermelon/red Scoundrel worms (www.cremelure.com) . Try pitching a pumpkin/char. 4" Disc Worm (www.bigbitebaits.com) or Terminator Finesse jig with Sliding Weight Craw trailer (www.slidingweight.com) to docks and laydowns in 8'-15' in feeder creek arms. Try applying 1 drop of Pro~Soft Bait Glue (www.prosoftbaitglue.com) to all soft plastics when you rig them. It holds soft baits in place bit after bite and you avoid re-rigging. This glue also repairs tears and breaks in plastics like Senkos, grubs, and tubes, reducing your replacement costs.

Stripers are good from Flag Island to the Lighthouse drifting live bait, trolling Curb's striper jigs and casting Rat-L-Traps and Red Fins to surface action.

CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 64 degrees; 911':

Largemouth are fair to good in 6'-15' along secondary points and on breaklines of feeder creeks on white Snap-Back Jerkbaits (www.terminatorlures.com), 4" Junebug Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com) and 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com) . School bass are following pods of shad along breaklines toward the back of creeks where an 1/8 oz. Tiny-T spinnerbait, 2" Lit'l Fishie Shad or 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Trap will produce. Bass in the 5-8 lb. class can still be found in deeper water(8'-14')suspended over brushpiles or in stands of cedars where pitching a black/blue tail 4" BBB Disc Worm, Snap-Back Creature Bait or 3/8 oz. Terminator Pro Series Jigs with matching Sliding Weight Finesse Craw Fish are really producing.

Smallmouth are fair in 6'-20' along bluffs on watermelon/red Hula Grubs, 3" crawfish Super Tubes ( www.cremelure.com) and Sliding Weight Finesse Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com). Because plastics have a tendency to slide down the shank of a hook after a bite or even on a missed hookset, we have found that adding 1 drop of Pros~Soft Bait Glue (www.prosoftbaitglue.com) to the head of a grub, tube or craw worm will hold the plastic in place through many bites, allowing you more fishing time instead of constantly re-rigging your lure. It also, repairs tears and breaks in plastics better than any glue we've ever found, thus reducing our out-of-pocket expenses.

Stripers are slow on live perch and Pirk Minnows.

Channel Catfish are very good on liver and Punch Bait at Fisherman's Corner FOR AREA INFORMATION OR TO BOOK A GUIDED TRIP WITH THE MOST EXPERIENCED, RECOMMENDED and RELIABLE FULLTIME BASS SPECIALISTS AND ALL SPECIES GUIDES ON THIS LAKE CONTACT JR'S GUIDE SERVICE www.jrguideservice.com Call (830) 833-5688 or [email protected]. Wtrn/pepper BBB 4" Disc Worms (www.bigbitebaits.com), wtr./red Sliding Weight (www.slidingweight.com) Craw Fish and Snap-Back Creature Baits on Carolina rigs are good along rip rap.
