Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 911' ; 63 degrees:

More stable weather conditions are inspiring largemouth and smallmouth to make their move up from the deeper ledges and toward spawning areas.

Largemouth are good to 9 lbs. along breaklines of flats in 3'-12' using 1/4 oz. crawfish Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com), blue/chart/white Terminator spinnerbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) and smoke Super Tubes (www.cremelure.com). During weather changes try pitching a black/redTerminator Jig with Uncle Josh (www.unclejosh.com)trailer tight to timber and laydowns and work it slow.

Smallmouth are good over rock piles and submerged jetties in 8'-14' using 1/8 oz. chartreuse Tiny-T spinnerbaits, Sliding Weight Finesse Craw Fish (www.canyonlakefishing.com) and 3" Super Tubes.

Stripers are fair but scattered in 30'-40' in creeks using live 1/2 oz. silver Pirk Minnows, 1/2 oz. white Curb's bucktails and jumbo minnows.

White Bass are very good upriver in 2'-4' of water on Shad Raps, #3 Terminator In-Line Spinners and live minnows.

Crappie good over brushpiles in 15'-20' using white 1/16 oz. Curb's crappie jigs, 1/32 oz. blue/white Tube Jigs and minnows.

LAKE BUCHANAN: Water stained; 1019.14'; 58 degrees

Black Bass are fair 8'-15' using crawfish Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-traps.com), junebug Scoundrel worms(www.cremelure.com) on Whacky rigs and watermelon Snap Back lizards( www.terminatorlures.com) along stump flats and laydowns.

Stripers are fair drifting live bait, trolling 1/2 oz. Curb's striper jigs in 28' of water at Shaw Island.

White Bass are good from 0'-20' in creeks on 1/4 oz. Pirk Minnows, Lit'l Fishie Shads and Tiny Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com)

LAKE LBJ: Water stained; 824.80'; 58 degrees:

Warming air and water temperatures are jump-starting the pre-spawn movements of largemouth and crappie. Barring another round of severe cold weather, look for both species to be moving on the full moon phase in March with completion of spawing activity in April.

Largemouth are good in 8'-12' on crawfish Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-traps.com)pumpkin/green Snap Back lizards (www.terminatorlures.com) black/red Terminator Finesse Jigs w/#23 Uncle Josh pork trailers (www.unclejosh.com)and watermelon Super Tubes (www.cremelure.com) in rip rap. Watermelon Sliding Weight Craw Fish(www.slidingweight.com) are producing some quality bass along rip rap and rock piles.

White Bass are fair to good in the Llano and Colorado arms using # 3 Terminator In-Line spinners, trolling Shad Raps and Tiny Traps.

Crappie are fair over brushpiles in 18' using blue/white Tube Jigs 1/16 th oz. chartreuse Curb's crappie jigs and minnows.
