Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE: Water "gin" clear; 80.5 degrees; 909.89':

Largemouth are good at daylight in 2'-8' of water along treelines with deep water close by on Chug Bugs, chrome Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-traps.com) and Texas rigged watermelon/red Scoundrel worms(www.cremelure.com). Because of clarity, after the sun is on the water, Canyon Lake bass are moving to shade of submerged tree lines in 8'-15' where slowrolling a 3/4 oz. or 1 oz. blue shad Heavy T spinnerbait and Chrome Frenzy diver will work. Upriver, sloping flats with timber on them is the place to work a watermelon Snap Back jerkbait or firetiger Tiny-T spinnerbait. Wtrmelon/grn flake Senkos (www.canyonlakefishing.com) allowed to sink to the bottom before you ever move it have been producing some of the better bass for our clients both upriver and on secondary creek points in the lake.

Smallmouth are fair to good along bluffs in 12'-25' using pumpkin Devil's Tongues(www.cremelure.com) on split shot rigs,rootbeer/grn 3" Yamamoto grubs (www.canyonlakefishing.com) and pumpkin Sliding Weight Finesse Craw Fish www.slidingweight.com). Pumpkin Uncle Josh drop shot worms (www.unclejosh.com) are good when fish are inactive.

Stripers are slow to fair in 26'-40' off mainlake points trolling threadfin Frenzy divers and Hyper Striper jigs with trailers.

White Bass fair at night under lights jigging 1/4 oz. Pirk Minnows or drifting minnows in 10'-20'.

Crappie are fair upriver in 8'-12' tight to timber and submerged trees and brush using Curb's crappie jigs, 1/32oz. Road Runners and minnows. For area info. or to book a guided trip with the only licensed, fulltime, professional guides on Canyon Lake contact JR'S GUIDE SERVICE www.jrguideservice.com Call (830) 833-5688 or email [email protected], Or, see us at FISHERMAN'S CORNER www.canyonlakefishing.com FM 306 at Potter's Creek Rd., (210) 213-2534. Check out the largest selection of quality tackle and live bait of any dealer in the area; Terminator, Crème,Berkley, Yamamoto, Zoom, Tuff Line, Ambassadeur and a full line of trout tackle and bait.

LAKE BUCHANAN: Water clear; 80 degrees; 1017.42':

Largemouth are fair early up high along ledges on steep bluffs and docks in 8'-15' of water on Texas rigged either 4" or 6" watermelon/red Scoundrel worms(www.cremelure.com), watermelon Snap Back jerkbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) and 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com). Working a 1/8 oz. white/char. Tiny-T buzzbait, Chug Bug or Pop R's over submerged islands and sloping points right at daylight is productive. During the day, dragging a watermelon Snap Back creature bait, lizard or 4" Super Tube Heavy along deeper points and ledges of creek channels and over submerged humps in the main lake is a way to go. Since bass are relating to deeper bluff ledges during the day, we like to use a watermelon/red Sliding Weight Finesse Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) crawled across ledges or a watermelon 3/16 oz.Terminator Finesse Jig with a matching Uncle Josh Pork (www.unclejosh.com) trailer hopped down the rocks is producing for us.

Stripers are fair drifting live bait or trolling Hyper Striper jigs(www.kgenterprise.com) in 40' of water around Flag Island. That is the area where you will find early morning topwater activity. It is short lived, but can be productive if you catch it right. Try burning a 1/2 or 1 oz. Rat-L-Traps and working Red Fins.

White Bass are fair early casting 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads and 1/8 oz. chrome Tiny Traps to feeding schools along sloping points over 20' of water. To book a guided trip for largemouth or stripers contact JR's Guide Service at (830) 833-5688 or email [email protected]

Lake LBJ: Water stained; 81 degrees; 824.62':

Black Bass are fair early and late in 4-10' on watermelon Snap Back jerkbaits(www.terminatorlures.com) and topwater lures. Swim baits, 1/4 oz. blue/white/char. Terminators and white Tiny-T buzzbaits worked through, along and over any vegetation that can be found at daylight will produce. For numbers of fish, try a gray/blue flake Sliding Weight Finesse Craw Fish (www.slidingweight.com) or Smokin' Green Devil's Tongue (www.cremelure.com) on their pre-rigged split shot or Carolina rigs along rip rap early, then humps along deeper channels later.

White Bass are good at night and very early on 1/32 oz. white Curb's jigs, 1-1/2" Lit'l Fishies, minnows and trolling Tiny Traps(www.rat-l-trap.com) and #5 Shad Raps in 20' of water.

Crappie are fair to good at night under lights and over brushpiles in 15' during the day on 1/32 oz. Curb's jigs and minnows.
