Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 86 degrees; 909.56':
Largemouth are fair at daylight along 2'-4'flats on white Tiny-T buzzbaits and plastic swim baits like a 2" Lit'l Fishie Shad, but once the sun is on the water begin working standing timber along breaklines in 8'-15' with a blue flake Snap Back (www.canyonlakefishing.com)creature bait tight to timber, 4" Scoundrel worms or pumpkin/char. tail Disc Worms. Slow-rolling a 3/4 oz. silver/blue Terminator (www.terminatorlures.com) spinnerbait through submerged treelines along bluffs in 20' of water can produce some of the biggest fish of the day. The water is so clear in the main lake that finesse lures and techniques are an absolute must! Upriver, working a watermelon/red flake Whacky Stick* (www.cremelure.com) along bluffs, pitching either a Bush Pig or Craw Tube (both are new Creme Lures products) or working a pumpkin/char. tail Scally Wag in thick brush are producing the better quality bass for our clients.
Smallmouth are fair in 12'-20' on drop shot rigs with a Smokin' Green Devil's Tongue(www.cremelure.com), pumpkin Sliding Weight Craw Fish w/char. claws and 4" Craw Tubes.
Stripers are slow tightlining live perch or goldfish in 70'-90' and trolling Hyper Striper jigs with trailers on downriggers along the dam.
White Bass are slow vertcially jigging Pirk Minnows through schools in 40' or trolling along the dam.
Crappie are slow to fair tight to standing timber or brush on minnows.
Yellow Catfish are good in baited holes in 15' on live perch. For area info. or to book a guided fishing trip contact the only licensed, Fulltime, professional guide service on Canyon Lake - JR's Guide Service

LAKE BUCHANAN: Water clear; 85. degrees; 1015.33':
Largemouth are fair until mid-morning in 8'-20' along shaded bluffs using Texas rigged watermelon/red Bush Pigs(www.cremelure.com); 7" wtrmelon/red Snap Back(www.terminatorlurescom) worms and 4" wtrmelon/red Scoundrel worms on light Carolina rigs. Deep diving
crankbaits are producing a few fish. Bass are holding very tight to wood cover and brush. Therefore, pitching a green pumpkin 3/16 oz. Terminator Finesse jig with a matching #23 Uncle Josh pork trailer
(www.unclejosh.com) into deep brush-piles and laydowns along shaded bluffs is producing some of the better quality bass.
Stripers are fair in 30' tightlining live bait and trolling 1/2 oz. Hyper Striper(www.kgenterprise.com) jigs along dam. Very little topwater action along mainlake points.
White Bass are slow along mainlake points very early vertically jigging 1/4 oz. Pirk Minnows and chrome/blue Tiny Traps.
Crappie are slow on minnows over brushpiles in 15' of water.
