Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 81 degrees; 908.50':
Cooler nights and mornings are accounting for better fishing as all species become and stay more active during the day.
Largemouth are good at first light on lake points using 7/16 oz. white Tungsten www.terminatorlures.com), Berkley threadfin poppers, threadfin back Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com)
and plastic swim baits are productive during the early morning bite, then try pitching a watermelon/char. Bush Pig* (www.cremelure.com) to standing timber and submerged laydowns along underwater points. Upriver, largemouth and Guadalupe Bass are coming on good pitching a junebug Craw Tube* (www.canyonlakefishing.com) to brushpiles and
submerged timber in 10'-25' along points.
Smallmouth are good 8'-20' on 3" rootbeer/green Yamamoto Curl Tail grubs, drop shot rigged pumpkin Devil's Tongue, Uncle Josh Drop Shot worms(www.unclejosh.com) and crawfish Super Tubes.
Stripers are improving tight-lining live perch in 30'-50' and trolling Hyper Striper jigs(www.kgenterprise.com) with trailers on
downriggers along the dam. Birds just beggining to work shad on the surface when stripers and whites push baitfish shallow.
White Bass are fair vertically jigging Pirk Minnows through schools in 40', casting Tiny Traps to surface activity or trolling #5 or #7 Shad Raps along the dam.
Crappie are fair at first light tight to standing timber or brush on minnows upriver.

LAKE BUCHANAN: Water clear; 82 degrees; 1013.25':
Largemouth are fair to good under cloud cover using
Berkley threadfin poppers; white/chartreuse 7/16 oz.
Terminator (www.terminatorlures.com) tungsten*
spinnerbait, chrome Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com)
and pitching watermelon/red Bush Pigs (www.cremelure.com) to docks and laydowns along 8'-12' break-lines as the day progresses. We just discovered a great weedless Kale hooks for Whacky rigs. The new hook series by Falcon Lures (www.falconlures.com).
Stripers are good in 30' tight-lining live bait and trolling 1/2 oz. Hyper Striper jigs(www.kgentrerprise.com). Top water action on
Red Fins and 1 oz. Rat-L-Traps.

LAKE LBJ: Water stained; 83 degrees; 824.84':
Largemouth are good for the first hour of daylight and
all day under cloud cover along riprap and break-lines of stump fields on white/chartreuse Terminators spinnerbaits (www.terminatorlures.com), 1/4 oz. perch Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com) and watermelon/red Scoundrel worms (www.cremelure.com) on wacky rigs using a 2/0 weedless Kale hook by Falcon Lures(www.falconlures.com). Carolina rigging a watermelon Snap Back jerkbait or creature bait down long sloping creek points will produce.
White Bass are very good at night and improving during the day on 1-1/2" Lit'l Fishies on light jigheads. After daylight, trolling Shad Raps and casting # 3 Terminator In-Line spinners is good.
Crappie are fair over brushpiles in 15' on minnows.

Choke Canyon; Water clear; 220.21':
Largemouth are good early along the outside edge of hydrilla using whte/char. 3/8 oz. Terminator buzzbaits/
spinnerbaits, topwaters and Rat-L-Traps. As the morning progresses and the shallow bite slows down switch to watermelon/red Snap Back jerkbaits or pitch a watermelon Craw Tube (www.cremelure.com) to bushes
or trees along sloping points.
White Bass are slow near the dam.
