Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE: Water clear; 72 degrees; 909':

Largemouth are very good before mid-day in 5'-14' of water on white 7/16 oz. tungsten spinnerbaits w/double willowleaf blades (www.canyonlakefishing.com), green pumpkin Senkos (www.canyonlakefishing.com), rootbeer green flake Bush Pigs (www.cremelure.com) or Brush Hogs and red shad Power Worms in standing timber under cloudy skies. Bluebird clear days require downsizing both line (8-12 lb. test is recommended) and lures; e.g., try swimming a 3" grub along submerged ledges of bluffs or deadsticking a 4" plastic stick bait (re: Senko) in 5'-15' and holding your breath while the lure makes it's slow fall.

Smallmouth are good on rootbeer/green curl tail grubs, crawfish colored tubes w/green flakes (www.cremelure.com) and 4" watermelon Senkos w/tails dipped chartreuse fished along 5'-20' bluffs. Stripers are only fair early in 30'-50' burning 1/2 oz. white Hyper Striper jigs (www.kgenterprise.com) w/chartreuse or Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-traps.com) trailers through schooling fish, vertically jigging Pirk Minnows and drifting live bait.

White Bass are fair to good at night under green lights on live minnows, silver/clear Swirltail grubs and white crappie jigs.

LAKE LBJ: Water stained; 71 degrees; 824.69':

Black Bass are good early on Yellow Magic topwaters, chartreuse/blue Terminator spinnerbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) & deadsticking green pumpkin Whacky Sticks (www.cremelure.com) along breaklines. Wacky rigging a 6" camo Scoundrel worm on a 2/0-3/0 "K" Wacky Hook (www.falconlures.com) or using a watermelon/red Snap Back jerkbait and skipping them far back under docks will get to those suspending bass during the heat of a blurbird clear day. Watermelon/ red Craw Fish Jr. (www.slidingweight.com) are good along rip rap on seawalls of canals and points.

White Bass are fair to good for the first hour of light on clear Rat-L-Tops (www.rat-l-trap.com), Spoiler Shads (www.cremelure.com) and chrome Tiny Traps.

Crappie are fair in brushpiles using live minnows, Silver Shad Swirltail grubs and white Curb's crappie jigs.

LAKE BUCHANAN: Water clear; 70 degrees; 1018':

Largemouth are good in 5'-12' using Rainbow Trout Snap Back jerkbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) on a 1/32 oz Bait Jerker hook(www.falconlures.com),wtrmelon/chart. Whacky Sticks (www.cremelure.com) or Senkos & white Terminator buzzbaits at first light. Texas rigged rootbeer Bush Pigs or Brush Hogs and watermelon/red craw tubes are producing in buckbrush, stumps and brushpiles along breaklines. Split shot rigs w/a watermelon/red Craw Fish Jr.(www.slidingweight.com) are still producing quality fish along ledges of bluffs

Stripers are fair in 28' of water bottom trolling white/chart. Hyper Striper jigs (www.kgenterprise.com) and tight-lining live bait. Early AM topwater action on Bleeding Shiner Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com) & chrome Berkley Top Water Walkers.
