Report for Canyon Lake & Lake LBJ, Texas

Capt. Jim Files
July 15, 2004
Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE: Water gin clear; 84 degrees; 910' :

Largemouth are fair to good at first light along 4'-10' breaklines on wacky rigged Whacky Sticks (www.cremelure.com), weighted Albino Shad Snap Back jerkbaits (www.canyonlakefishing.com) & pumpkin/chart.

5" finesse worms . During the day, turn your attention to open water ledges and humps from 12'-25' deep where deep cranking shad colored crankbaits and Carolina rigs with green pumpkin Snap Back jerkbaits

produce. Upriver, the early A.M. bite is pretty good using shallow running crankbaits, 'deadsticking' 4" green pumpkin Wacky Sticks or Senkos rigged on "K" Wacky Hooks along laydowns in 5'- 8' of water. Pro's Soft Bait Glue (www.prosoftbaitglue.com) extends

the life of expensive soft plastics by enabling you to repair tears on the water and saves you money!

Smallmouth are fair along bluffs in 12'-25' using smoke/red Snap Back tubes (www.canyonlakefishing.com), watermelon/gold flake Yamamoto Cut Tail worms on 1/8 oz. jigheads and smoke Wacky Sticks.

Stripers are slow. Anglers can expect a slow bite by trolling Hyper Striper jigs on downriggers in 60'-75', vertically jigging 1 oz. pirk Minnows and tight-

lining live bait near the dam.

White Bass are fair at night under green lights on Curb's crappie jigs and 1-12" Lit'l Fishie.

Crappie are fair to good upriver in 6'-10' dabblin' white 1/32 oz. crappie jigs and minnows.

LAKE LBJ: Water stained; 84 degrees; 824.82':

Black Bass are good at night and first light at the top of channel break-lines on 1/4 oz. blue/chartreuse Terminator (www.terminatorlures.com)spinnerbaits, cranking black Photon glow crankbaits (www.photonlures.com), 3" plastic swimbaits and black buzzbaits. During the heat of the day we work

boat docks by skipping and "deadsticking" a 4" watermelon/red Whacky Stick (www.cremelure.com) or wacky rigged chameleon/blue Scoundrel worm on a "K" Wacky Hook (www.falconlures.com) as far under the dock as possible. Try adding a drop of Pro's Soft Bait Glue (www.prosoftbaitglue.com)to the hookeye when rigging soft plastics to keep them from slipping.

Stripers are good to 20" at night using 2" Lit'l Fishie Shads, #5 Terminator In-Line spinners and free-lining live perch.

White Bass are excellent (40-60 fish/night trip) at night to 2 lbs on 1-1/2" Lit'l Fishie, white Curb's crappie jigs and #3 Terminator titanium In-Line spinners.

Crappie are very good at night in 8'-14' on white Curb's Crappie Jigs and 1-12" Lit'l Fishie.

**Our guided night trips are producing limits of white bass, several crappie and stripers for all anglers on each trip.** To book a guided fishing trip with the only fulltime professional guides fishing LBJ for over 40 years contact JR's Guide Service
