Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

CANYON LAKE: Water gin clear; 84 degrees; 909' :

Largemouth are good to 6 lbs early in 12'-25' of water using pumpkin Devil's Tongues (www.cremelure.com) on drop shot rigs, green pumpkin Yamamoto Cut Tail worms (www.canyonlakefishing.com) on jig heads and watermelon/chart Whacky Sticks on wacky rigs. UPRIVER, the early morning bite is good on flats along channel turns using 1/4 oz. Blue Shad Terminator spinnerbaits/buzzbaits (www.terminatorlures.com), later using green pumpkin Snap Back creature baits & grape Scoundrel worms using a 3/0 "K" Wacky Hook (www.falconlures.com)to "whacky rig" them.

Smallmouth are good at night in 3'-8' on black 1/8 oz. Tiny-T buzzbaits, black Photon crankbaits (www.photonlures.com) and 7/16 oz. black Terminator tungsten spinnerbaits (www.canyonlakefishing.com) along the initial breakline of mainlake points. During the day, Carolina rigged 3-1/2" rootbeer tubes and Scoundrel worms on Mojo rigs produce in 12'-30' along bluff ledges.

Stripers are slow over humps and along main lake points in 60'-80' down-rigging Hyper Striper jigs, vertically jigging 1 oz. Pirk Minnows (www.canyonlakefishing.com)and tight-lining live perch.

White Bass are fair at night under Green Lights on 1-1/2" Lit'l Fishies, 1/16 oz. Curb's crappie jigs and live minnows on glow heads.

Crappie good upriver in 8'-14' on Curb's crappie jigs and live minnows.

LAKE LBJ: Water stained; 83 degrees; 824.87':

Black Bass are fair at night and at first light along 4'-10' breaklines just off the flats using black Terminator(www.terminatorlures.com)spinnerbaits, blk topwater chuggars like Pop R's or Chug Bugs and black

1/8 oz. Tiny-T buzzbaits. Creek points are holding fish under low light conditions. Good spots to try Photon "Bug Green" (www.photonlures.com)crankbaits and smokin' green Devil's Tongues on light Mojo rigs w/3' leaders. Skipping a watermelon/red Whacky Stick (www.cremelure.com)on a 3/0 "K" Wacky Hook (www.falconlures.com) or green pumpkin Snap Back (www.terminatorlures.com) tube rigged on a long shank jighead under boat docks produces during the midday heat. Soft plastics will last longer if you'll use a drop of Pro's Soft Bait Glue (www.prosoftbaitglue.com) to the eye of the hook and to repair naturally occuring tears in plastics.

Stripers are pretty fair up to 20" at night on 2" Lit'l Fishies and free-lining live bait.

White Bass very good at night to 2 lbs on 1-1/2" Lit'l Fishies (www.cremelure.com) and 1/16 oz. Curb's crappie jigs.

Crappie are very good at night on white or chartreuse Curb's crappie jigs.

LAKE BUCHANAN: Water clear; 83 degrees; 1017' :

Black Bass are fair to 5 lbs. along bluff ledges with wood in 8'-14'using weighted watermelon/red Snap Back (www.terminatorlures.com)jerkbaits, 4" junebug Whacky Sticks (www.cremelure.com) and working the shady side of boat docks w/Photon (www.photonlures.com) Glow

crankbaits & 4" grn/pump.Craw Tubes (www.cremelure.com)

during the day. To save some money on soft plastic baits try adding a drop of Pro's Soft Bait Glue (www.prosoftbaitglue.com) to the hook eye to hold them in place. It's also great for repairing torn spot on plastics.

Stripers are fair to good bottom trolling white/gray Hyper Striper jigs (www.kgenterprise.com) on down-riggers or lead line, vertically jigging Pirk Minnows and tight-lining live bait in 28'-35' feet of water from Flag Island to the dam.

White Bass are slow along main creek points on Spoiler Shads, 1/8 oz. Tiny Traps (www.rat-l-traps,com) and 1/4 oz. Pirk Minnows.
