Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Canyon Lake: Water gin clear; 83 degrees; 909.89'

Largemouth are fair on top of mainlake and sloping points at first light in 5'-20' on 2" Daiquiri Skip-N-Pop topwaters (www.jdcbaits.com), 1/4 oz. Bleeding Shad Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com), 2" Spoiler Shads (www.cremelure.com) & 4" rootbeer-black fleck drop shot worms. Upriver, a significant algae bloom has slowed and shortened even the short-lived early AM motion bait bite. You can still catch a few bass right at daylight on black back 2" Spoiler Shads, blue-white-chart. 1/4 oz. Terminator stainless spinnerbaits (www.terminatorlures.com) & chrome-blue back Rat-L-Top topwaters (www.rat-l-trap.com). After the sun is up, our most effective bait has been either a Texas rigged grn. pump-blk fleck 3" JDC JR. Craw (www.jdcbaits.com) and wacky rigged 4" Ice Tea Scoundrel worm on a 3/0 "K" Wacky Hook (www.falconlures.com), tight to stumps and submerged trees along steep, undercut banklines and bluffs.

Smallmouth are fair to good at night on black single spin spinnerbaits, 3/16 oz. black-brown Terminator with Devil's Tongue trailers.

White Bass are fair at night under lights on Spoiler Shads, Tiny Traps and live bait.

Crappie are fair upriver in 10'-16' tight to standing trees on 1/16 oz. white Curb's crappie jigs and minnows.

Lake Buchanan: Water clear; 81 degrees; 1017.91'

Largemouth are fair to good up to 4 lbs at daylight in 5'-8' of water along laydowns on points in the Apple Orchard and over deeper submerged midlake humps using a white-char. 7/16 oz. Terminator Tungsten (www.terminatorlures.com) spinnerbait, Texas rigged

pumpkin-char. Whacky Stick (www.cremelure.com) & a Bleeding Shad Rat-L-Trap (www.rat-l-trap.com) After the sun is on the water move to deeper structure like ledges and humps w/a Carolina rigged camo colored JDC drop shot worm (www.jdcbaits.com) or deep diving Fat

Free Shads.

Stripers are only fair drifting live bait and at night on 3" Spoiler Shads (www.cremelure.com) & white 1/4 oz. bucktails & 4" chartreuse JDC Strike Grub on an 1/8 oz. jighead.

White Bass are fair to good at night until daylight around lights using a 1-1/2" blue back Lit'l Fishie (www.cremelure.com), Tiny Traps(www.rat-l-trap.com) and live minnows.

Crappie are fair at night on brushpiles and submerged trees in 8'-15' on crappie jigs and live minnows.

Lake LBJ: Water Stained; 80 degrees; 824.96':

Bass are good just before and right at daylight along 4'-10' breaklines tight to weeds or laydowns on silver shad Terminator buzzbaits (www.terminatorlures.com), 1/4 oz. Bleeding Shad Rat-L-Traps (www.rat-l-trap.com) and whacky rigged watermelon-red Whacky Sticks (www.cremelure.com) around deep water docks.

Stripers are fair at night using 3" Spoiler Shads (www.cremelure.com), white 1/4 oz. bucktails w/JDC Strike Grub trailers and free-lining live bait.

White Bass are very good at night on 1-1/2" Lit'l Fishie, 2" Spoiler Shads and minnows.

Crappie are fair around docks and brushpiles in 8'-14' on white crappie jigs and minnows.
