Capt. Jim Files
July 28, 2000
Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake LBJ

LARGEMOUTH & SPOTTED BASS. Best activity is at night along rip rap in 2'-6' and under lighted docks using a watermelon Creme Super Tube, white Lake Fork Magic Shad or red shad MagWorm. At daylight go to a pumpkin/flake or smoke Creme Devil's Tongue on split shot rigs or the watermelon Super Tubes. Just before daylight is the time for topwater action. Chrome or bone Pop R's and Terminator buzzbaits will work and are taking some of the largest bass for our clients. CRAPPIE are good in brushpiles in 12'-25' on a white 1/16 Curb's crappie jig or chartreuse Creme Tiny Tube and on minnows. WHITE BASS occassionally are chasing shad on the surface. Use a 1/8 chrome/blue Tiny Trap or Horizon Pirk Minnow if you are over water deeper than 12'.

Choke Canyon Res.

LARGEMOUTH good in grass on white/chartreuse 1/4 or 3/8 oz. Terminator spinnerbaits, red shad MagWorm and Jade Stone Rat-L-Traps worked along the grass edges in 4'-8'. Look for some of the largest fish on the points with severe drops. A watermelon 3/8 oz. jig with PIG-CLAW trailer or watermelon or red shad Zilla lizard is good here. WHITE BASS are good near the dam vertically jigging 1/4 oz. HORIZON PIRK MINNOWS
