Canyon Lake - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake LBJ
LARGEMOUTH & SPOTTED BASS are running bank lines in 2'- 5'
at night and until 8:00 AM. Shad or lemon shad Magic Shads,
Ice Tea Creme Scoundrel worms on wacky rigs and smoke/green
flake Kapalia twin tail grubs, and 1/8 oz. white/chartreuse
Terminator buzzbaits are all producing. Once the sun gets up
fish are moving over the breaklines in 8'-20' and suspending
in brushpiles. Pitching and "deadsticking" a watermelon 5 1/2" Minnie Bucket lizard or a Creme Scremer worm is taking some very good fish.
Our clients are boating over 20 white bass and crappie up to
15" & 16" working boat docks at night with chartresue Creme
Mini Tubes with Berkley "crappie chunks" in them or white or
chartreuse 1/32 Curb's crappie jigs. Look for brush piles in
12'-20' in creek channels during the day and try the same lures and minnows.
CANYON LAKE
LARGEMOUTH are only fair during the day because of the gin
clear water and lack of shad activity after sunup. Work the
deep water bluffs over the treelines with an 1/8 oz. silver/blue Terminator spinnerbait, plastic jerk bait or
threadfin or firetiger Frenzy crankbait. Best activity is before and right at daylight, until 8:00 AM. If you are restricted to or prefer to fish during the heat of the day
look for bass to be holding & suspended on secondary lake points in 15'-25' over distinct rock piles and ledges. A
Creme Devil's Tongue on a split shot rig or a 5 1/2" pumpkin
lizard by the Minnie Bucket on Carolina rigs are good choices here.
SMALLMOUTH are congregated in very small areas holding in 12'-22' of deep water pockets. A split shot or drop shot rig with an Ice Tea Creme Devil's Tongue or smoke/blue or smoke/green Minnie Bucket Kapalia twin tail grub on 1/8
oz. head worked down the ledges are productive.
