Galveston Bay Flounder Gigging

Galveston Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Gigging continues to be good in Galveston West Bay. The fish are holding on sand bottom near drains. The key is to find baitfish (mullet & mudfish) - the flounder wont be far away.

We are anticipating a great February. This is usually when we will start seeing the beginning of the spring flounder run. Here on the Texas Coast, we are seeing some extreme mild temperatures for January. This means one thing.... the flounder that left to spawn in the Gulf will be making their way back into the bays.

Galveston Bay Fishing Forecast:

February should be another great month for flounder gigging. We are experiencing an extremely mild winter, and I am anticipating a great Spring Flounder Run here in Galveston Bay.
February also marks the start of the Giant Black Drum Run along the Galveston Jetties. These awesome fish are common to weigh 30 to 45 lbs. Black Drum put up a tremendous fight for the angler. We will be targeting these fish in deeper water 20 plus foot. Cracked crab is the bait of choice fished along the bottom.
Target Species:

Flounder, Redfish, Black Drum, Sheepshead
