Galveston Fishing Reports

Galveston Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Texas Flounder Gigging

December Fishing and Flounder Gigging in Galveston has been incredible for the first half of December, and the second half should be even better. Our Galveston Fishing Guides are having excellent success with full limits of flounder on our Night Time Flounder Gigging Charters. As usual, Mother Nature plays such a large role in being able to successfully see flounder at night. Wind direction and velocity are the key ingredients for water clarity and visibility. After a cool front pushes thru and drops water levels and temperatures fall, another wave of Flounder make their ways out of the back lakes, bayous, marsh and bays. Right after a cool front passes and we have a few days of calm winds, clear skies and clean water is the key times to be out on Galveston Bay hunting Galveston Flounder.

On the days that are not ideal for gigging flounder, we are having great success in the back lakes and bayous fishing for Redfish and Speckled Trout. During the days prior to a Northern Front pushing thru, we usually see strong Southerly flow of winds which redfish, especially seem to be most active. Redfish will feed up before these fronts push thru on live mullet as well as shrimp. Some of our largest speckled trout are caught during the month of December using live mullet while we are fishing for Redfish.

This is a great time of year to be fishing in Galveston. December weather can be simply amazing after the passages of cool fronts, and the wildlife and sunset views can be heavenly. If you would like to get out on Galveston Bay and experience a night time flounder gigging trip or a back lake and bayou fishing trip, give us a call at 409-739-8526.
