Galveston Fishing Report

Capt. Greg Verm
July 16, 2015
Galveston Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

www.fishinggalvestontx.com

Despite high winds to 20 plus knots the past week, the Galveston Fishing Report remains good. This past week we have been on full moon or near full moon, and this does affect feeding patterns as well as tides and currents. This combined with extremely high winds have affected the feeding pattern of the fish. The past week we have seen much better success on our afternoon fishing charters in Galveston . Water clarity suffers when the winds are high, and we have better success for speckled trout when water color is green or as green as possible.

We have had some very good success with our Galveston Shark Fishing Trips this week. Sharks rely on scent and water clarity does not play such a major roll with a successful Shark Fishing Charter. This past Saturday, we had Tracey and his family on board and they hooked and landed over 12 sharks in less than two hours. The largest was a 7 to 8 foot Spinner Shark. They also landed a very nice 5 foot Black Tip Shark. This is a great time of year to hook into a Galveston Shark, and as water temperatures continue to rise, more and more sharks will make there way inland of Galveston Island.

The back lakes, bays and marsh fishing remains good. We are now on the typical summer time pattern in the shallow Galveston flats for redfish, speckled trout and flounder. This is a great refuge when the winds are high, and sea sickness does not want to be an issue. Catching and landing 50 plus fish on a five hour charter is the norm. Many of the fish may be under the legal size limt to retain, but still great fun for families and kids to get their line stretched and catch fish!

Galveston Offshore Fishing

Our Galveston Deep Sea fishing has been land locked due to the high seas that are the result of the currents and winds gusting to 20 plus knots. Calm winds and flat seas are just around the corner, and when they get here - we are ready. The Kingfish, Mahi (Dorado), Ling, Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Amberjack, Sharks and more will be finding their way to our cleaning tables as soon as this wind gives us a break.

Give us a call to get in on a Galveston Fishing Trip with our top professional Galveston Fishing Guides. With many trips to choose from and five boats to get you on the water - we will get you hooked up on some Galveston Fish! 409-739-8526
