Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report
Our lake is normal level and water color is clearing up real good in most places.Water temperature is 70 to 78 degrees and warming with the hot weather we are having. Wind has been causing some water to muddy up depending which way it is blowing but does not seem to effect the fish much. Looks like the windiest Spring I can ever remember is going to continue with gusts to 25 most days making fishing in some areas difficult or impossible. The fish have been cooperative enough that we have been able to hide some from the strong winds and still catch fish.
Largemouth bass fishing is good and a few different patterns are working right now. Fishing windy points has been good for numbers of fish if you can hold the boat to fish. There is still some fish in real shallow water, on the bottom end of the lake spawning, and can be caught on split shoting a Yum Dinger in june bug color. Bigger fish are post spawn on flats and secondary points coming out of major creeks in 6 to 10 feet of water. Bestway to catch quality fish right now is Carolina Rig fishing using french fries or plastic worms fishing slow.
Sand bass fishing has really kept me busy and the fishing has been really good. Catching all our fish on Cotton Cordell CC Spoons 3/4 oz. chrome with a Flies-By-Night sea green flie tied 14 inches above the Spoon. Best depth has been changing with the wind and clouds from 27 to 37 on drop offs. Fishing where the wind will let us from Isle du Bois state park to Wolf Island on the east arm of the lake. In the next couple weeks I anticipate the deep water sand bass bite to go away as the fish transition to schooling on top for the summer.
