Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report

Lake Ray Roberts is about 19 inches below normal level and water temperatures were 60 to 63 before the cold front today. Water is lightly stained in most areas and will cool down to the upper 50's after this front. As the water cools into the 50's the best large mouth bass fishing will be rocky areas around the lake. A small shad colored crankbait will catch fish and the afternoon bite will be the best as the water warms during the day. A black and blue 3/8 oz. Booyah Boogee bait will also work on Ray Roberts in cold water.

White bass fishing is very good and we have caught limits of keeper fish on every trip since mid August. Cooling water temperatures this time of year will have these fish relating more to the bottom and the drop offs on the main lake structure where we fish for them. There is a lot of birds on the lake and they can help show the areas the fish are using. The best way to catch a bunch of fish is to find them on your electronics near the bottom and vertical jig for them. We are fishing both arms of the main lake looking on points, humps, roads and ridges for active feeding fish. A Cotton Cordell CC Spoon chome color with a Flies-By-Night fly tied 14 inches above the spoon is the best bait I have found to catch sand bass on Ray Roberts. Big catfish are around the same areas where we fish for sand bass and we have caught one on most trips lately. Its a great time to fill the freezer with fish and learn how and where to catch white bass on Lake Ray Roberts.

Have fun fishing,

Tim
