LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT

Lake Ray Roberts is a little over 2 feet lower than normal level with water temperature today 44 to 48 degrees. Color is stained in most areas of the lake now. Largemouth bass fishing is slow on Ray Roberts when the water temperature goes below 50 degrees. You can still catch them but do not expect many bites per day. A Booyah Boogie bait in Black and Blue or an Excalibur XR50 in Rayburn Red will get a few bites fished around rocky areas of the lake. I did catch a 7lb. 13 oz. bass this week while fishing for sand bass in 35 feet of water on a main lake hump.

White bass fishing is very good on Lake Ray Roberts in the winter and these fish are on a strong winter pattern. The best way to catch a bunch of fish is to find them on your electronics near the bottom and vertical jig for them. The best depth this week was 34 to 37 feet deep. We are fishing both arms of the main lake looking on points, humps, roads and ridges for active feeding fish. A Cotton Cordell CC Spoon chome color with a Flies-By-Night fly tied 14 inches above the spoon is the best bait I have found to catch sand bass on Ray Roberts. In the cold water situation that we have now, with water temps in the 40's, good knowledge of what your electronics are telling you is a must. Sometimes these fish are laying on the bottom of the lake and you need to use at least a 4X zoom to see them. Another key to catching fish in cold water is your lure presentation. A slow hop of the spoon and sometimes holding it still just off of the bottom is what will get the most bites. We are catching a lot of magnum size sand bass and it is a great time to learn how and where to catch Lake Ray Roberts white bass and take home a fish fry. I guarantee I send you home with a fish fry of fillets or you get another trip free. Give me a call or send me an email if you want to do some winter fishing on Ray Roberts. I also have Gift Certificates available if you need a Christmass Gift for someone.

Have fun fishing,

Tim
