LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT
Lake Ray Roberts is about an inch above normal level with water temperatures 64 to 74 degrees. The big rains we had this week have raised the lake level by 3 feet flooding lots of shoreline vegetation. Some areas of the lake are muddy due to the influx of new water, but there is a lot of clear water also. There is still a few bass spawning but most are post spawn. We have been catching fish 2 to 4 feet deep on carolina rigged blue pumpkin french fries and light weight t-rigged Yum Dingers in junebug color. A white spinnerbait and an Excalibur XR50 rattle bait in Foxy Shad color will catch fish on wind blown points if you can keep it away from the sand bass. Best bet for bigger bass is 7 to 10 feet deep on a carolina rig.
White bass fishing is very good in the warming water we have now and there are lots of birds working to help show where the most active fish are. Today I saw birds from one end of the lake to the other on schools of sand bass. The sand bass are moving a lot this time of year and you have to keep moving to stay on biting fish. We have caught fish from 10 feet deep to 35 feet deep this week and everywhere in between. Most of our fishing has been from Isle du Bois State Park to the mouth of Indian Creek. Humps, points, roads and ridges are all producing fish. You can catch them on rattle traps or crank baits under the birds but most of the fish this week have been taken on
Cotton Cordell 3/4 oz. CC Spoons in chrome color with a Flies-By-Night chartreuse fly tied 14 inches above the spoon is what we are using to catch them with. This time of year you need to keep moving to stay on a good bite. It is not unusual to check a spot and find no active fish then go back an hour later and a big feed is happening.
