Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report

Our lake is .10 feet above normal level and water is being released at 214 cfs. which is very little. The water is stained but is clearing a lot in the the last couple weeks. The water temperature is really hot and so is the sand bass fishing. This morning the temperature was 88 degrees at the ramp where I put in at 6:00 am. When I left at 1:00 pm. it was 90 degrees. Everybody knew that when the wind quit we would get very hot in North Texas and we did. The good news is the fishing is hot also, whitebass are schooling all over the lake every morning. Lots of the fish are small, which is normal for early summer schooling sand bass on Ray Roberts, but there is plenty of keepers mixed in to fill the ice chest. This week we are catching everything on topwaters throwing at schooling fish. The fish are feeding on very small shad which I guess are this years fry. Best baits have been clear tiny torpedoes, Pop-Rs, and Chug-Bugs. Of course the "Floatin Thing" that I make is catching a lot also. Tiny Torpedoes catch fish on every cast but the average size of the fish you catch goes up if you go to the chugger type topwaters. It takes some boat riding around the lake to stay in biting fish but have been able to pretty much stay in active schooling fish all morning every morning this week by moving around the lake. Give me a call if you want some topwater fishing for an ice chest full of good eating fillets

Have fun fishing,

Tim
