Lake Ray Roberts - Freshwater Fishing Report

December 26, 2009

Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report,

Lake Ray Roberts is at normal level and water is being released at 46 cfs. Water temperature is 45 to 46 degrees and lightly stained in most areas of the lake. Winter time white bass fishing is very good on Lake Ray Roberts and this year is no exception. The blizzard we had on Christmas Eve cooled the water down a little more but it did not change the fishing. I found fish biting today on most places I tried. Best depth the last week has been 28 to 32 feet. The fish are laying right on the bottom most of the time with water temps in the 40's and this is where your electronics really come into play. I find these fish by using the 4x Zoom feature on my graphs and then see if the fish will bite. The fish are very predictable this time of year and will stay on the structure spots we fish all winter. The key is finding fish that are feeding and will bite. The best way to fill the ice chest with fish is to keep moving from spot to spot until you find a good bite going on. Sometimes it takes more looking than others but if you are persistent you can find feeding fish all winter A sensitive light action rod is a must in winter fishing to feel the light bites we get in cold water. I scale down to 12 lb. Silverthread line this time of year to help us feel the bite. A Cotton Cordell CC Spoon 3/4 oz. chrome with a Flies-By-Night chatreuse fly tied 14 inches above the spoon is what we catch all our cold water sand bass on at Ray Roberts. Boat control is very important in the Winter as the fish want a vertical presentation of the lure on the structure you are fishing. Not many people fish all winter like I do so my availability is pretty much wide open the next couple months. I am usually ready to go on short notice so if you see a pretty weather day and you want to get some fish for a fish fry give me a call.

Happy New Year,

Tim
