Lake Ray Roberts - Freshwater Fishing Report

Lake Ray Roberts Fishing Report

April 14, 2007 LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT We started this week with windy cold weather in north Texas and we ended this week with windy cold weather in north Texas. Water temperature was 57 degrees monday morning after the cold weather easter weekend. That is 13 degrees colder than it was thursday last week. Lake Ray Roberts is still down 6 feet from normal level and rising slowly from last nights rain. Some bass could still be caught in shallow grass this week but the drop in temperature slowed the bass fishing down considerably. Best bait in shallow grass was still Yum dinger and Yum wooly bug creature bait rigged weightless or with a light weight. I did catch a few this week on Booyah boogie bait in chartreuse and white, these fish were pre-spawners on the lower end of the lake. On tuesday the water temperature was 57 degrees near the dam and 57 degrees north of Wolf Island. Mild temperatures next week should get fish moving to shallow grass on the lake from top to bottom. White bass fishing is excellent on the main lake structure from Isle du Bois State Park to Wolf Island in 25ft to 40ft. The windy weather and cooler water temperature really had the fish biting. I had 3 trips this week and the wind was really blowing on each day from a different direction. We were able to stay in biting fish the majority if the time even though we could not move around the lake much due to wind. Catching all fish on Cotton Cordell 3/4 oz. chrome CC Spoon with a chartreuse Flies-By-Nite jig tied about one foot above the spoon. Its a good time to take young people getting them hooked on fishing. I had the pleasure of taking father and son teams on every trip this week and enjoyed the friendly competition between them over who caught the most. On wednesday I had three generations of fisherman with me. Doug and his son James and James' son Nick. There was a fierce competition between Nick and his dad, James, over who caught the most. They divided it into halves, as we took a break after a couple hours and I filleted their limits and got them on ice. Then we went out for the 2nd half of fishing, James won the first half and Nick won the second half and when I left them, they were not agreeing over who had the most for the day total. All I know for sure is the 3 of them caught around 250 for the trip and 11 year old Nick kept an accurate count of his fish and his Dad's fish without a clicker. Have a good fishing week, Tim
