LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT
Lake Ray Roberts is still 4 feet down from normal level and the last 2 feet of water we got this spring has left some big stumps just under the surface north of Wolf Island in some places that look like wide open boat lanes. If you are not real familiar with the upper end of Lake Ray Roberts I would be going easy especially through the tree lines.
Largemouth bass fishing has been good with a lot of quality fish being caught in May. All of the bass have been in the grass and some places with wood mixed in. The grass in Ray Roberts is growing strong all over the lake. The way the lake came up this spring a foot at a time there is places that there is really good grass growing out from the bank a long ways and some of the fish took up residence there and did not move up with the water level. We have been catching fish on Bomber 2A chart and blue crankbait over the grass and the Booyah Boogie chatterbait in chart and white. Most fish have been caught on soft plastics T-Rig or Carolina rigged. Best baits have been Yum Dingers 4" and Bass Pro stiko's 4" in junebug or any variation of watermellon and Baby Brush Hogs in the same colors. On monday Brandon and Mark who fished with me let me catch my first double digit this year. I wish one of them had gotten the bite as we were all fishing the same grassy point but luck would have it I got the big bite. At any rate the fish was a spawned out over with a bloody tail that went 10lbs.
White bass fishing is very good this week with better quality fish showing back up on the main lake structure. We have been catching some small 8" fish lately but it has been easy to get limits of better quality fish. With the warmer water temps they are moving around more and you may be in them strong for a few minutes then they move off with the shad. They are always biting somewhere and if you look with your electronics on the many humps, roads, ridges and points on the main lake structure you can find some biting. Still catching most fish on Cotton Cordell CC Spoon 3/4 oz. chrome with a Flies-By-Night chartreuse jig 18" above the spoon. Birds are getting scarce with the warmer temperatures but some are still hanging around and may help you find the active fish. Most fish have been 20ft. to 30ft.
Good Fishin,
Tim
