LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT
Lake Ray Roberts is still 1.72 feet lower than normal level and the last big rains we got left the water stained in many areas where it was getting really clear before the rains. Largemouth bass fishing in the 4 to 8 ft. grass has not been as consistent as before the last foot of water we got. In some areas moving to the newly flooded weeds has produced fish. Still can not get a good top water bite early and am catching most fish on soft plastics in junebug or watermelon colors. Fishing 15ft. to 30ft. has not produced many bites but the fish are good ones when you get a bite. Using 3/4 oz carolina rig on the deep fish with blue pumpkin fries. Still using 4" Yum dingers for the shallow fish T-rigging 1/8th oz. or carolina rigging same size weight. Have seen a few fish the last couple weeks that were still spawning or guarding fry on the south end of the lake.
White bass fishing has really changed in the past 2 weeks. Fish are schooling early and before some of the many thunderstorms we have had. The sand bass are not hanging around the 25 to 35 ft. structure much and catching them on slabs or spoons has been really hit and miss. I have not seen any schooling activity from Cates Point to Culp Island as of yet, but will happen anytime now. Schooling has been sporadic from Cates Point to Wolf Island on either side of the lake. On a cloudy morning it has been easy to get to the schools and catch a bunch. Clear tiny torpedoes and small crank baits will catch them early and on cloudy days. On sunny days after the early bite they are finicky and takes a small bait like a Rooster tail or small jig to catch them. Sometimes casting a slab or spoon and bringing it back under the schools will catch bigger fish.
