Lake Ray Roberts - Freshwater Fishing Report

LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT

June 26, 2007 LAKE RAY ROBERTS FISHING REPORT Lake Ray Roberts is 5.29 feet over normal level. The recent floods in North Texas have raised the lake level at Lake Ray Roberts 7 feet since my last report. because of the high water there is only three boat ramps open at the present time. Jordan Park, Isle du Bois State Park and the Sanger boat ramp are the only ones open. Water is being released at a rate of 2940 cfs, but the lake is still rising because of the most recent rains we have received. You need to use caution when running the lake now as it is not unussual to see large floating logs in the middle of the lake. Water clarity has remained clear on the main lake and stained in some of the creeks but not too muddy to fish. Bass fishing is good in the newly flooded vegetation in 3ft. to 6ft. We have been using Booyah spinnerbaits and buzzbaits in white and chartreuse to catch some of these shallow fish but the best bite has been on soft plastics. 4" Yum dingers and Yum 4.75" houdini worms in junebug and watermelon colors are catching fish. Texas rig with 1/16th ounce weight has worked best for me and have caught some on split shot rig and carolina rig. Casting to the flooded willows and other vegetation sometimes will have the fish tight to the cover but the water to 6 ft and deeper in front of all of the newly flooded cover has been producing fish as well. White bass fishing has improved in the last week with the high water with the fish schooling on top. Small topwaters like tiny torpedoes in clear, small crankbaits, 3/8 oz. Humdingers and jigs have all been good for these schooling fish. The schooling activity has been mainly mornings and evenings but have seen some in the middle of the day with all of the cloud cover lately. The best areas this week have been on the east arm of the lake from the Isle du Bois State Park to just north of Lantana Lodge on the east bank and from The mouth of Johnson Branch to Cates Point on the west bank. This schooling activity is still pretty sporadic, you can be in lots of fish for a few minutes then they just quit. This summer time sandbass fishing will get more predictable in the next couple of weeks. Have fun fishing, Tim
