Milwaukee - Freshwater Fishing Report

lake Michigan Milwaukee fish report

Lake Michigan Milwaukee fish report By Capt. Jim Hirt Where did the Brown trout go? We had two charter trips at Blue Max Charters on Friday the 21st and two trips Saturday the 22nd. It was the tale of two cities. Friday we started at the break wall gaps the wind was out of the northeast it was choppy. At first the fish gave us a hard time. Action in this area had been great with limit catches mostly Browns and Chinook. The baitfish was still their but all the Brown trout were gone. After about an hour of trying variations in presentations we finally nailed them down big time. Our first fish a 12-pound king came on a Fishlander Ultra Glow spoon 33 feet down in 34 feet of water outside of the break wall. We stayed with that presentation pounding the bottom for the next four hours. This paid off well ended up with a nice box of Chins 8-14 pounds. I never saw a brown that trip, I believe the water warmed up enough and they headed out to other areas. The lack of Browns did not concern our group. They were very happy with a cooler full of hard fighting spring kings. The afternoon charter went about the same and all was well. You know where I was going the next morning. Set lines 6am nothing round and round up and down still nothing. Time to head east still nothing. Marking fish no takers finally picked up a Laker on a spoon 65 down 75 feet of water. This was a start worked this pattern nothing. Continued East water temp 46 moved more rods to planer boards. Got out to 120 feet and all you know what broke out. We found the Coho and Rainbows the cooler filled up quickly. Fishlander Ultra glow spoons caught most of the fish also had action on orange 6 inch flasher with blue or green flies 12 inch back. Wow!! The Coho have arrived. The afternoon trip was just as good. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI.
