The Island Anglers- C.A.S.T. For Kids Fish Event 08/05/2007 05:48pm
The future of fishing and the survival of our marine resources squarely rest in our children's hands. A couple of years back, a number of us old salts, Gary Anderson, Captain Mike Zgrabik, Mike Cavallo, banded together to form a close knit group to which we fished and became protectors to our environment. Age was not a factor but the love to fish was and through this common thread, The Island Anglers was born. We started as a fishing club with a website to display the trophies caught by the children and have evolved into a conservation marine network whose role is to deliver a message of Positive Mentoring through Fishing. Casting awareness to Florida fisheries and aquatic habitats, The Island Anglers, primarily focused on our young people of today, represent stewards to our marine environments. Our website, www.theislandanglers.com is but another tool in a quest to the survival of our future fish stocks, a resource guide and a conservation organization-teaching people, especially children, about fishing, freshwater, saltwater and marine habitats, through aquatic resource stewardship.

August 18, 2007 , Venice Beach Florida, C.A.S.T. for Kids, hosted by The Island Anglers and co-hosted with WSRZ Oldies 107.9 FM, taking place on the Venice City Pier, Venice Florida. Sponsors include but are not limited too Mote Marine, Admiralty Marine, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Shakespeare Fishing Tackle, The City of Venice Florida, Skeeter Fishing Boats, Zebco, Plano, Eagle Claw and more. Adding to a fun filled day, presentations by FWC Law enforcement, Venice Marine Patrol, Mote Marine and a Classic Car show raising contributions for C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation taking place between 8:30 AM until 1:30. Forty disadvantaged and disabled children will get the opportunity to catch fish, learn the meaning of being responsible stewards to their marine environments and take home a hat, shirt, rod, reel, tackle box and plaque with their picture to remember the day. Sharky's on the Pier providing lunch for the participants in conjunction with The Island Anglers for a breakfast snack. At a ratio of 1:4, every four children matched with a volunteer Island Angler Pier Captain, spend the morning learning about marine habitats, through aquatic resource stewardship. Our Pier Captains are volunteers composed of our youth membership with adult volunteers as a needed resource. No Boat needed here for we have the pier.
SO COME ON DOWN TO SHARKY'S ON THE PIER AND HELP A KID SMILE WITH HIS FIRST C.A.S.T. ( that is Catch A Special Thrill )
