Reel Adv. 5/13 KINGS, BIG BLUES and REDS

Postby Reel Adventure » Mon May 15, 2006 6:52 pm

On Saturday 5/13 I had the honor of taking out SGT. Shane Meeks and his friend who is a Lance Corporal in the USMC. They wanted to hook up with some King Mackerel and the kings were eager to please us. Luckily Shane and his fellow Marine were seasoned fishermen because it was chaos at times with a few double hook ups and even a triple! We were trolling HUGE Spanish sardines on yellow and pink king rigs. The sardines are not my favorite bait to pull but the size of the bait sure made up for its lack of quality. The king mackerel bit almost non stop until the bait was gone and the big bluefish would not stay off the down riggers! What a great problem to have. The fish were holding tight to the structure at WR-4 and each pass was a guaranteed fish. The wind finally started to pick up so we pushed in close to shore and tried for a few Spanish with no luck. All in all it was a awesome day with a great group of Marines. Thanks guys!

On Friday 5/12 I had Donnie Lee aboard for some shallow water reds. We ended up with 2 nice reds and missed another. The reds were caught on Berkley Gulp! jerkbaits when the wind was calm and once the wind picked up we caught another red on live bait. Hats off to Mr. Lee for staying in the game and working hard for those 2 reds!

Lets go!
