break in the weather

Postby captain john » Tue Feb 21, 2006 1:07 am

The weather has been kind to race fans with temperatures in the high 70s low 80s .Right up to the 500 and now its back up in 70s with light wind and 2 to 4 foot seas . Which makes for some good fishing weather and with the fish chewing that makes for a great day out on the water.

Rather its bottom fishing or trolling you want, there both pretty good right now and should stay that way for awhile depending on the cold fronts. The water is starting to warm up everyday now with water temperatures in the mid 60s inshore, out to the reefs and offshore temperatures in the low 70s.Its not going to be long before the dolphin start showing up.

Inshore ( along the beach to the reefs) fishing is still a little slow, but getting better with each passing day.Right now there are limits of smaller kings (5 to10 lbs) being caught along with some bonita on the troll. Bottom fishing you should find your fill of puppy sharks,if can get your bait past them you should get some nice size lane snapper, big seabass, occasionally a flounder and smaller red snapper. OH YEA!! cant forget about those big bad COBIAs. Our last 6 hour trip we cought a 60lbs cobia, which the angler proudly had mounted.

Offshore bottom fishing is HOT HOT HOT !!!!
Nice limits of red snapper are being cought in 120 foot along with some big grouper. The cobia are out there to .Use live pinfish and cut bait for the grouper ,snapper are hitting sardines and live bait.
Trolling has been pretty good for nice limits kings and bonita ,not to much has been going on in the deep ,just a few wahoo, sailfish and small dolphin.
