Headed down to the Keys this past weekend with friends Chuck, Eloy and my godson Alex to fish the Kiwanis dolphin tournament. We shoved off on Saturday morning at around 7:30am and headed for Mollases reef planning on staying in close to the edge and fish the weed lines in 200'. The seas were flat all day Saturday which had me wondering if I should have run all the way out. As it turns out, I should have. We trolled all morning with nothing to show but a few knock downs and a peanut throwback. I later heard reports of fish being caught 27 miles out but I had already thrown in the towel on dolphin and headed to the reef for dinner. 15 minutes after setting the hook, this gag joins our party and the fish fry was official
On Sunday moning we headed back out to the reef and caught 6 muttons, a mogan mangrove, a nice black and a couple of margates. The bottom bite continues to be on fire and I hope it continues.
Tight lines!
