9-9-05 SwordReport

Postby GhostRider » Sat Sep 10, 2005 3:43 pm

West wind on friday. We headed out with Squids only. I insisted we get live runners but no one else wanted too. We set up on a drift ; we were getting pushed out to deeper water. 23 Minutes into the drift the tip rod gets whacked! We let the fish eat it then we come tight on it with a 80lb class rod doubled over, then suddenly he turns another direction and the fish is off. We leave the squid for a few more minutes hoping the fish would come back for it. Nothing we reel it up and a decent fish follows it up. Estimated at 100-140lbs. We stays in the glow for a while looking at the half whacked squid then he left. Set up again and again the tip rod gets whacked , the sword sucked the squid right off. 0/2 less than an hour in the drift. These bites came early, before the moon set. We landed 2 hammerheads thereafter. Nice night on the dark side. We'll get em next time :) .
