Sunday Offshore/Inshore report 8:22 PM 3/9/2003

Slept in this morning and got to Matheson about 9:00. Headed to bug to find a few boats anchored and not catching much for bait. Motored around and finally marked a few schools of herring and chummed up some threads, cigars and ballyhoo.Seemed to be a lot of bait there to me Got a good load and\ eaded south to drop on the Pioneer. NOT!.... a 3 knot current screwed up that plan. Head to Triumph and set out a spread, (for me thats 2 flat lines and a deep one , 17' Maverick!)Had a cutoff on the deep rod and then a solid hit deep. While bringing that in my 2 flat lines go off. A triple header.....on BONITOS ...Got 2 of 3..I am by myself. Made a few more drifts and ended up w/ another triple on Bonitos and got all 3 this time. Wind picked up and headed inshore for a little shark chumming. Took one bonito\ and fileted him and tied him over the side. Took about 30 min. when 2 big
Nurses showed up. One was about 100 lb. Didn't try to bait him as they fight
like a rock!..While watching them cruise around in my slick I was startled
to see a 300lb plus Hammerhead cruise right up my chum slick and turn when
he was about 10 feet away!! This was in about 7' of water. Pretty cool, this
one I tried to bait! He wasn't interested in the little chunk he wanted the
whole bonito..He stayed around for a few minutes and then took off...Over
all not a lot of fish but a lot of action.
