Ken McCall and his friends from Kendall, Florida chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team for a private deep sea charter boat sport fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As they boarded the boat, they were greeted by Captain JB and mate, Dave, from the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat Team.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water, which we exclusively have here in Fort Lauderdale, due to our extreme drop off. The further north you go, the further the drop off swings off shore.

We started off trolling with two plainers down on spider line, a #6 and a #8, one with a pink and blue sea witch and the other with a chartreuse sea witch, both with double hooked Bonito strips. We trolled the reefs north of Fort Lauderdale in search of bait fish. I headed towards some of our 34 artificial wrecks that are located in Fort Lauderdale, ranging in 520 ft. of water to 74 ft. in search of bait fish because when you find the bait fish the predators will not be too far behind. The anglers took turns reeling in their catches – Kingfish and Bonitos.

I can see a couple of birds working east, so as we trolled toward the birds, the right rigger came down – we had a nice Mahi Mahi. The angler reeled the Mahi to the side of the boat where our mate gaffed it and put it in the fish box.

I decided to do some Shark fishing so I put out three Shark baits – on the surface, midrange and bottom. It did not take long for the bite – hooked up - the line screamed off the 80 International Reel. Chris was the angler, and he reeled in a 72” Hammerhead Shark. Dave wired the Shark to the side of the boat – pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The happy anglers retired into the a/c salon watching the plasma TV and enjoying the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
