Ucluelet BC Fishing Report - February 17, 2021

Halibut limits update

Some highly anticipated and good news was announced with the scheduled opening of the public halibut fishery in BC for Family Day, Feb 15th, 2021. Until April 1st, the halibut regulations will be the same as 2020, either 1 halibut per day and 1 halibut in possession between 90cm and 126 cm, or 2 per day with a total of 2 in possession under 90cm. There is an annual limit of 6 halibut in effect that is also based on the 2020 season. The 2021 regulations will be provided by Fisheries Notice in March.

Halibut fishing was good up until mid September in 2020. DFO increased the halibut limit for the rest of the season up to 2 halibut per day around mid August. It will be interesting to see how things play out for 2021 when the announcement comes in March.

If you are wanting to come on a fishing charter in Ucluelet with us in 2021 expect accommodation to be in short supply like these past few summers. This past summer was the hardest season yet to find accommodation. You can check out Ucluelet-Info.com or get one of our fishing packages available at https://www.salmoneye.net/site/fishing-packages.html. We have very little ocean view accommodation but still have some cabins available.

Tight lines,
