Golfito Sport Fishing -June report

Postby baker » Mon Jun 25, 2007 10:19 am

We've had tropical low pressure systems, red tide, green water, and through it all, the fish have remained.

All that is behind us now. Water is clear blue, huge schools of bait fingerlings are growing fast in the Golfo Duce, and the best marlin bite of the year is approaching. August and September will be hot once again.

Ms. Chlake Raineau had a marlin up every day out this past week, but she really doesn't care for marlin. She LOVES sailfishing!!

I'll be the first to admit it, they were very tough. As I explained to Ms. Raineau, it is likely that the day she takes off for the States, the bite will change.

Sails DID come into the spread, but only cruising. We had a look, and then they were gone, gone, gone.

A lot of bait, and full bellies. Capt. Guerra and brother Ricardo, (The Blues Brother's) tried their best, but the sails were lock-jawed.

Small tuna and a ton of dorado made the days exciting though, and Chlake promised to be back next year, most likely in January this time.

Inshore fishing is back to normal after the disappearance of the red tide plague, and the corvina will be hitting live sardines with a vengeance when they begin their spawning routine.

Big roosterfish off Mata Palo and Punta Banco, along with some very hefty CUBERA SNAPPER.

Keep in touch , and make that Aug.-Sept. MARLIN bite if you're still looking for your first one!!
