Coral Lagoon Resort and Marina! Best Kept Secret in the Florida Keys! Pamper Yourself and Your Family in Beautiful Marathon Florida.

Coral Lagoon Resort and Marina is located at 12399 Overseas Highway, Marathon, FL 33050 and tucked away just off the south side of US 1. Because of the small sign and the landscaping some travelers heading south to Key West might go right by the six acre resort and never know it was there and that’s how this establishment likes it. Luxury homes and villas lie just beyond the sound of busy US 1 making this resort hardly noticed by vacationers and sightseers heading to Key West. But for the ones that know about Coral Lagoon Resort and Marina it’s a vacationing destination that we like to think is ours.
Recently my family of four headed down to Marathon and enjoyed three wonderful days at the Coral Lagoon Resort and Marina in Marathon. This was our second stay at the Resort so we already knew that we would enjoy the accommodations as much as we had our last stay. When our family goes on a little getaway it requires a lot of packing because we never travel light. Lots of fishing gear will make the trip with us as well as swimming and snorkeling equipment. We normally trailer my 22’ Pathfinder bay boat behind my Chevrolet Avalanche and that was the occasion on this trip. We left our driveway in North Miami at 10 AM and enjoyed the leisurely two hour drive to Marathon. Once we traveled out of the populated area of South Miami and entered the first islands of the upper Florida Keys we were treated to breathe taking views of the Atlantic Ocean, Florida Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. More than once the kids saw bottlenose dolphins and large tarpon as they splashed on the surface of the crystal clear blue green waters from our moving vehicle as we crossed the many bridges that link the Florida Keys to one another. Along the road we could see numerous birds both sea and land birds either flying over head or perched in the trees or telephone poles. Soon we were in Marathon and we made the left hand turn into the Resort. Once we had our keys to our room we disconnected the trailer from the truck and unloaded our gear.
The Coral Lagoon Resort and Marina is luxury all the way but the cost of the two nights was very affordable. Our three bedrooms home was as beautiful as the one we had stayed in a few years ago on a longer stay. The colors of the interior are very tropical and the furnishing all top of the line. The two story home included a fully equipped gourmet kitchen with all of the utensils, washer and dryer, WI-FI high speed internet access that was greatly appreciated by our family, premium cable television service in the Florida room and in each bedroom, Dvd/Cd stereo systems, cordless and speaker phones, two full and one half bathrooms, first and second level private porches, spectacular water views, a beautiful large pool with plenty of lounge seating for everyone and a boat slip right behind your home making your boat easy to load and unload. The six acre Resort is has plenty of shade trees and lots of tropical flowering plants and green shrubs and gives you the feeling that you are in a tropical forest. The facility includes a top notch state of the art full service Marina that has dockside fueling and rigging, fish cleaning and storage stations that features a thatched roof over the cleaning station, fresh running water and lights in case you happen to come back to the dock after dark as well as boat motor repairs and services a boat ramp to launch your boat and outside shower.
Once we unloaded our gear we launched the boat and headed out of the Marina to a well marked channel that led us to the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. During our stay we fished mostly offshore and enjoyed plenty of action from an assortment of reef species like yellowtail, mangrove and mutton snappers, groupers, a few different species of jacks, sharks, grunts , a cero mackerel and a big dolphin also known as a Mahi Mahi that engulfed a live ballyhoo bait that my daughter was fishing with. We saw lots of sailfish free jumping just hundreds of feet away from us but never hooked one plus lots of sea turtles, frigate birds and pods of bottlenose dolphins. The Marathon waters offer excellent snorkeling, scuba diving, offshore fishing for sailfish, kingfish, tuna, wahoo and dolphins as well as light tackle inshore fishing for bonefish, snook, tarpon, permit and bonefish.
Plenty of restaurants are available in the area although many close early. We enjoyed some of the best cracked conch I have ever eaten at the Cracked Conch Café at mile marker 89.5 and on another night we had dinner at the Sunset Grille and Raw Bar located at 7 Knights Key Blvd., Marathon, FL 33050 at the foot of the Seven Mile Bridge that had great ribs and prime rib and was open late.
Next time you’re in the area and are looking for a place to escape from the world give the Coral Lagoon Resort and Marina a call at 866-904-1234 and check out their web site at Http://corallagoonresort.com.
